How Do I Help My Child with Reading?

How Do I Help My Child with Reading?

The best way for you to help your child is to read to him/her or have him/her read to you EVERY day for 15 to 30 minutes. After reading a paragraph or so, discuss it with your child to make sure he/she understands what was read. For ideas on what to ask your child while enjoy a book together, please check out my page entitled "Supporting Reading Comprehension at Home".  To learn more about how important it is to read EVERY day, check out my page entitled "Why Read 30 Minutes a Day?" and "Why Can't I Skip My 20 Minutes of Reading Tonight?"

I have just found this link from The Meadows for Preventing Educational Risk.  There are several lessons modeled here, such as reading multiple syllable words, building academic vocabulary, basic phonics at home, and several other subjects. Just click on the link below and it will take you to these very helpful lessons.
